Hi All

What a great turn out on Mondays meeting – good effort.

The new LCD TV has been installed & is a great asset for the club. Certainly a lot easier to look at trip photos as the SD card pops straight in.

Greg & Toddy had some great footage of two recent Poor Knights Trips
Greg’s was more about the fish life, Toddy’s was about beer.

There is a CLUB DIVE this weekend. (Sunday). We need 10 people to make it happen, cost is $70 pp and we will be going out from Mana on a large boat. 2 dives & BBQ lunch – cost covers lunch.

If you are keen – ring or text Paul on 0274484773

Please do this now, as we need to make numbers up by Friday night to book boat.

Hi All

Greg has been busy doing up the new buddy list & its attached above

If you want to go diving – use it!!

Ring around a few fellow members & go diving – it’s as easy as that.

Glen & Aaron took Silhouette out a couple of weeks ago & by all accounts did well.

Mitch also made his boat available & took out 5 club members. We did ok & put a few crays in the bag including a nice pack horse.

Welcome:
To new members Shane Demenech and Lance (Peka) Johnston.

This weekend:
I am heading 4 x 4 around the South Coast about 11am on Friday, planning to camp on beach Friday night & come back Saturday afternoon. Anyone else keen to come around is welcome.

Paul has also just came back from the States & will be organizing another club dive ASAP

Hi All

Bugger!!!
Daylight saving is about to end & winter on its way.

We had a club trip around the south coast a few weeks ago, staying at Pauls bach.
Plenty of Paua on the bbq & excellent company – Bazz’s supply of duty free certainly went down well & Malcolm’s big chilly bin of ice came in handy!

I am starting to wonder about Mitch though…..
Since when do you go on a dive trip & not bring any dive gear??

We had an awesome time on the D’Urville trip – exceptional diving & some good size crays came on board.
Danny was top scorer in both size & numbers – he is actually getting better with age.

Bazz proved the soft bait phenomenon is justified – catch ½ the fish we caught collectively on his little soft bait rod & eggbeater reel

Darryn is putting all the photo’s onto disk & we will have a show & tell next club night – Monday 4th April 7.30pm.

CLUB DIVE
This Sunday – south coast marine reserve
if weather is ok, plan is to meet at the Bach café (next to Splash Gordon) 10am for a coffee 1st then go for a dive or two.

This is a good chance for any new members wanting a safe scenic dive & to get some more experience under their belts

Easter weekend
Anyone keen to do Taupo again??
Another option is go 4 x 4 around the south coast on Friday & stay the night – come back on Sat afternoon.

Tora is also a good spot but we need a couple of club boats

SUBS: Greg has mentioned that many members have still to pay their subs. If this is you – please do so asap.

Cheers

Hi All

A quick reminder TONIGHT is club night. See you all there at 7.30 for a catch up.

Andy Garner no doubt has a “great” story to tell about how he shot himself in the leg with a speargun
I for one am looking forward to hearing this one!!!
(Nomination material I think)

5 club members (using Buddy List) just had a awesome weekend over the south coast.
Lucky there were a few of us as it was all hands on deck getting our presidents truck out of a river.
Malcolm ended up towing Pauls flash Toyota out with his trusty Mitsi

We finished the weekend getting Paua a few bays around from Makara, I was in 3m of water & was buzzed by a decent sized SHARK.
The bloody thing glided past me from underneath / side – only 1m away

There is also a trip THIS weekend to D’Urville Island.
It’s this Fri / Sat / Sun / Mon (4 days)
There is ONE spot left.

If you’re keen – speak to me tonight.

14 February 2011

Hi All

We had an AWESOME club dive yesterday – well done to those who turned up.

Water temp was 19.2, Viz was 12 – 15 m, water was calm & you couldn’t have asked for a better day.

5 mins out from the beach we came across a pod of dolphins – probably over 100.
They chased the boat, were leaping out of the water etc, a great start to they day.

1st dive was done at the south end, a few minutes around the other side.
This produced some good crays & a bag of butterfish, also present were blue maomao & a very distinctive striped Moki.
It was striped like a zebra, with white & brown stripes – I have never seen one before & decided to leave it alone for others to see (true)

2nd dive was off the very left side & even better.
Butter fish everywhere & some of the biggest I have ever seen, plenty of crays etc
Paul came up with an XL cray & an XL moki - thought he had bragging rights for the day until I showed him my XXL cray

Its body is nearly as wide as the dive tank & just about as long – damn thing refused to go into catch bag & grabbed the sides.
I ended up swimming around for 10 minutes with it just hanging on the outside.

Cray was in 12m

Neil & Ton also got a few – Steve came across one walking along out in the open – but kept true to his eco form & left it alone for the next diver

A cool shower & few cold beers at the end of day – what could be better

Don’t forget – Next Sat, North Island Spearfishing champs. Plenty of volunteers needed – especially from about 2.30pm.

Tell all your friends about the fish action at 4.

Cheers

3 February 2011

Hi All

What an awesome weekend we had up in Turangi!!!
6 club members made the effort to enter the cat fish cull & we were rewarded with awesome weather and a great adventure.

Out of 25 teams, we came in 10th so not bad at all considering some of NZs top spearos were there.
Prizes we won included knives / Rob Allen weight belts / catch bags / measurers / snorkels / hats etc
Rochelle cleaned up junior woman’s title, I shot the smallest fish (10g) which makes me the best shot (anyone can hit the big ones) but also made up for it as I shot the most in our group
Paul nailed a few, Even Mandi got one.

That just leaves Darryn…..
Ummm errrrrr – how many Darryn? – (would that be 0)

The cat fish are tricky little buggers, we thought they just sit there and you spear them – NOT
They can move faster than a rat up a drain pipe – a bit of cunning is needed

A great comp & one I will attend next year for sure – the fresh water & no sharks is a great alternative.

THIS WEEKEND (Sunday) – Paul has teed up a club dive with Ben Knight / Kapiti Dive
1st 4 people to call him are in – 0274484773

Next Monday 7th is the 1st club meeting of the year & Greg Bishop will be speaking on behalf of Doc re the Mana Bio Blitz

I don’t know all the facts – but Greg does and it will be interesting to hear what’s happening at Mana.

I can’t attend this meeting as away down south with Darryn – hunting Tar & Chamois & pigs / deer etc

BUGGER!!!

19 January 2011

Hi All

Just a quick note re this weekend’s club trip to Taupo.

Its all go & weather looking good for the weekend.

The actual spot we are going too is called REIDS FARM.

Very easy to find, drive through Taupo, over the control gate bridge (countdown will be on your right) up the hill and then TURN RIGHT as if you were going to Huka falls.

The Taupo look out will be on the immediate right.

Simply drive for about 2 minutes & you will see Reids farm on the right (it's right next to the river)
If you go past Huka lodge – you have gone past it.

Camping is FREE, there are toilets etc but no other facilities at all – so bring tent / air bed etc etc.

Mandi & I will be heading up about 4pm on Friday – I have a red Pajero 4 x 4 & a dark green caravan so just look for that.

Caravan has BBQ / cooking facilities etc & we will use that as our base.

We will do toast & tea / coffee for breakfast / lunch is BYO & usually eaten while floating down the river / dinner will be a BBQ so bring some meat.

Bring your dive gear / an inner tube is also fun.

See you there

Hi All

Hope you all had a great new year & enjoying the summer diving.

Just a heads up – next weekend is Wgtn anniversary & Monday is a holiday.

I am heading up to Taupo to spend a few days drift diving the Waikato River and a scuba salvage dive under the bungee (lots of coins).

Anyone keen to come?

We will be camping right on the river (it’s FREE) so all you need is a tent.
All members welcome & family included – you can even bring the dog.

Also – the weekend after that is the cat fish cull in Turangi.
Snorkel & hand spear only

It’s on Saturday so plan will be to head up Friday after work & stay at a cheap back packers
Dive all day sat followed by a bbq etc & stay the night – come back on Sunday.

Who is in – we will car pool and also be taking up the club trailer (Mitch – where is it)

We are expecting approx 100 divers from all other NZ so it will be a great event & good to meet other divers & other clubs
If you are keen please email or text me

Regards

Pete
